Introduction
Congo Gorilla Forest's 6.5 acres are home to a remarkable collection of animals, including two troops of lowland gorillas, led by silverbacks Timmy and Dan, as well as DeBrazza's monkeys, okapis, mandrills, and red river hogs. Indoor exhibits include environments designed for birds, reptiles, fish and invertebrates. A lush mosaic of shady forest, treetop lookouts, rock promontories, streams and wading pools, bamboo thickets, and sunny meadows provides animals with a great variety of habitat.
Congo Gorilla Forest is the first major zoo exhibit to involve the zoo-goer directly with forest conservation in Africa. The "Conservation Choices" pavilion invites visitors to contribute their exhibit admission fee to conservation projects in Africa managed by the zoo's parent organization, the Wildlife Conservation Society. Many of these projects have as their goal to protect the very same animals seen in the exhibit.
